Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy Shakespearean classic “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in the Homestead Gardens at the Rehoboth Art League (12 Dodds Lane, Rehoboth Beach).  The show runs from 4pm-6pm and cost is $10, although additional donations are much appreciated.

Saturday, July 7th – Delaware Symphony Orchestra
Head down to the Freeman Stage at Bayside (31750 Lake View Drive in Selbyville) to enjoy the Grammy-nominated Delaware Symphony Orchestra.  The DSO is Delaware’s only fully-professional orchestra and has entertaining audiences for over 100 years!  Tickets are $10 and kids are free.  The concert begins at 8pm. 

Saturday, July 7thSt. Peter’s 46th Sidewalk Art & Artisan Show
Enjoy fine arts and crafts in beautiful downtown Lewes.  Over 140 artists will be exhibiting their work from 9am-4pm on Second Street in Lewes. 

Saturday, July 7th – Doktor Kaboom’s Interactive Science Comedy Show
If you have kids in your life, head down to the Freeman Stage at Bayside (31750 Lake View Drive in Selbyville) from 10am-12pm for a free, fun event!  Doktor Kaboom! Creatively blends theater, science experiments, and comedy to entertain and educate kids of all ages!

Thursday, July 5th – Free Family Movie
Dolphin Tale will be playing tonight beginning at sunset on the Community Center Lawn in the Village of Five Points (Lewes). This will be the first of a series of summer movies that will continue every Thursday evening until August 9th. See this link for a complete schedule.

Last year more than 80,000 people participated in this popular event! The spectacular fireworks display is set to begin around 9:15, but could begin as early as 8pm if the weather is threatening. Rain date is Thursday, July 5th. For more information call 302-227-2772. Remember that the beach and boardwalk will be packed, so arrive early!

Lewes Old Fashioned 4th of July and Do-Dah Parade
Head down to Second Street in Lewes for old fashioned games and other activities beginning at 9am.  There is also a decorated boat parade on the canal that begins at 2pm.  Then, from 5pm-7pm join in (or watch!) the Infamous Lewes Doo-Dah Parade!  With no need to register or plan ahead, you can just jump in any time to become part of this fun, family activity!

Bethany Beach 4th of July Parade and Fireworks
Gather in downtown Bethany beginning at noon for festive day of fun!  Activities include a horseshoe throwing contest, blueberry pie eating contest, live music, fireworks, and more.  For more information call 302-539-8011.

Laurel’s 18th Annual July 4th Celebration

Bring the family to join the firefights at the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company for a delicious, all you can eat breakfast at the firehouse in Bethany Beach (215 Hollywood Street).  Enjoy a tour of the firehouse plus an all you can eat feast of eggs, French toast, biscuits and gravy, potatoes, muffins, bacon, sausage, juice, and coffee.  There are also special activities to keep the kids busy.  Breakfast is $10 for adults and $5 for children over 5 and free for kids ages 5 and under.

Free Family Movie Tomorrow

Canalfront Park in Lewes is a great place for family-friendly events all summer long, and this week is no different! Enjoy a family friendly movie in the great outdoors tomorrow night. Bring a picnic dinner, spread a blanket out in the park, and enjoy time with your family. The Great Outdoors will be playing tomorrow night, Wednesday, June 27th. Saturday, June 23rd-Sunday, June 24th – 2012 Mid-Atlantic Sea Glass & Coastal Arts Festival
Head down to the Lewes Historical Society Complex (110 Shipcarpenter Street) and for just $5 you can buy a pass good for both days of this unique festival.  The weekend will include more than 40 sea glass artists, other artists from all over the U.S., collectors, guest speakers, and more.  Hours are 9am-4pm Saturday and 9am-3pm Sunday.  For more information, check out the above link.

Sunday, June 24th – Heritage Shores Car Show
Head down to Heritage Shores Golf Club in Bridgeville for the 2nd Annual Car Show from 11am-2pm.  The afternoon will include food as well as fun and all kinds of cars!  Prizes are awarded for the top 20 cars, including the coveted Best in Show.  Come on down and vote for your favorite!  For more information call 302-337-9926.

Sunday, June 24th – Fish ‘n Kids
Lewes Canalfront Park will host this event sponsored by Quest Fitness & Kayak once again this year.  There will be fishing games and activities geared toward kids ages 3-12, including the chance for kids to make their own fishing poles!  If you bring a t-shirt kids can even make their own fish-embossed t-shirts.  This event runs from 12pm-2pm and admission is free!

This annual event takes place on the beach at Dagsworthy Street from 11am-2pm on Tuesday with registration beginning at 10am.  30 teams from some of your favorite local restaurants will take place in fun competitions including kayak racing, tray carrying, and an obstacle course.  Last year’s champion was Jake’s Seafood House with The Cultured Pearl and The Lighthouse rounding out the podium.  Which local eatery will be this year’s champion?  In case of rain this event will take place on Thursday, 6/21 at the same time.  Come out and cheer on your favorite!

Wednesday, 6/20: Bonfire on the Beach
Dewey kicks off their weekly Wednesday Night bonfire this week on the beach at Dagsworthy Street.  Bonfires will take place every Wednesday (except July 4th) through the end of August. Bonfires are from 7:30pm-11pm and are weather dependent.  In case of inclement weather, cancellations will be announced no later than 6pm.  Bring some beach chairs and some marshmallows to roast (you might want to throw some graham crackers and chocolate bars into your bag too!) and enjoy some summer fun with the whole family!

Stop by the Lewes Life-Saving Station and watch participants build 12 foot wooden boats called “Bevin Skiffs.” These fishing and recreational boats fit 4 people comfortably and are made on site. Saturday from 10am-4pm you can view the 16 boats and Sunday at approximately 1pm you can enjoy the launching of the ships at Lewes Canalfront Park.

Take the kids to a free concert of the US Air Force Academy Band.  The band is made up entirely of active-duty military members and they incorporate the story of the air force into a kid-friendly performance!  All ages are welcome, but this show is geared toward the kids.  The concert is free.  Located at the Freeman Stage at Bayside (31750 Lake view Drive in Selbyville).  For more information call 302-436-3015.

Saturday, 6/16 – 22nd Annual Lewes Garden Tour
This popular annual event is hosted by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce.  Enjoy this beautiful self-guided tour from 10am-4pm on Saturday.  There are ten gardens on the tour this year, 1 public and 9 private.  In addition to touring the gardens you are also welcome to enjoy the garden market, food tent and working artists.  At 1pm there will be a lecture entitled “Using Flower Essence of Life’s Stresses – The Power of Flowers” in Zwaanendael Park.  Tickets are $15 in advance of $20 on Saturday.  You can purchase tickets in advance by visiting the Lewes Chamber of Commerce (120 Kings Highway in the Fisher-Martin House).

Sunday, 6/17 – 14th Annual Chautauqua Tent Performances
You can enjoy this year’s performances from 1pm-8pm in Zwaanendael Park.  This year’s theme is The War of 1812.  This year’s performers include a story-teller, musicians, a food demonstrator, a historian, and a theatrical reenactor.  For more information and a complete schedule of performances check out the link above.

Beginning tomorrow, June 6th, the town of Milton will host a free summer concert at Milton Memorial Park every Wednesday night through the end of August. If you bring a fishing pole the bait, hooks, and bobbers will be provided. Hot dogs, soda & train rides are also free. All participants must have a parent or guardian present. Sponsored by the Delaware River & Bay Lighthouse Foundation, Lighthouse Tours will take place this year on June 2nd, 16th, and 30th, July 14th & 28th, August 11th & 25th, and September 8th.  All tours depart from the pier behind the Ferry Terminal in Lewes at 11am.  Reservations are required and participants must arrive at least 15 minutes early.  Cost is $35/ages 13+.  Children 12 and under are only allowed on specified days.  Check out the website for more details!

Sunday, June 3rdPicnic in the Park
This fun event takes place from 12pm-3pm at Canalfront Park in Lewes.  Admission is $10 in advance or $15 at the door.  Kids under 12 are $5.  Food & beverage tickets are $2 each.  Many of Lewes’ best eateries are participating and there will be live entertainment and children’s activities as well.  To purchase tickets in advance call 302-644-0108.

The Lewes Summer Concert Series kicks off this Tuesday (May 29th) at 7pm. This series takes place in beautiful Stango Park on Kings Highway next to the Lewes Public Library and features free outdoor concerts every Tuesday evening as well as additional times throughout the summer. Saturday, May 26thHorseshoe Crab & Shorebird Festival
This popular event is hosted by the Milton Chamber of Commerce and takes place at Milton Memorial Park & Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge.  Join the 1500+ other people who enjoy this annual festival and enjoy an art show, crafts, boat rides, canoe trips, games, food, music, trail walks, train rides, a scavenger hunt, and more!  A shuttle bus is available to take guests from the park to the refuge and back.  10am-4pm

Saturday, May 26thHistoric Lewes Farmers Market
The Historic Lewes Farmers Market opens this weekend for another season!  Located at the Lewes Historical Society Complex (110 Shipcarpenter Street), the HLFM offers the freshest local foods available in an educational, community-oriented, family-friendly setting!  Support local farmers every Saturday starting this weekend and running through the end of September.  8am-12pm every Saturday from May 26-September 29, 2012.

This 5th Annual event is held at the Governor Ross Plantation all weekend.  It features a living history encampment, demonstrators, crafts & exhibits.  Living history artisans will demonstrate period crafts and re-enactors will participate in demonstrations.  In addition, there will be live music and entertainment.  Art and antique cars will also be displayed.  For more information check out this YouTube video or call 302-629-9690.  Opening ceremonies take place at 10am on Saturday.

Sunday, May 27th:  Lantern Tours of Fort Miles
Historic Fort Miles, located in Cape Henlopen State Park was an important defense position during World War 2.  This weekend you have the opportunity to tour the gun battery by lantern light and learn about how soldiers defended the U.S. coast.  There is a limit of 30 for this tour and pre-registration is required.  Cost is $5 per person, and it is for ages 10 and up only.  Call 302-645-6852 to register or get more information.

Sunday, May 27thConcerts in Cupola Park
Head down to Cupola Park in Millsboro from 6pm-8pm for a free outdoor concert sponsored by Thoro-Good’s Concrete.  This week’s performers are “The Funsters,” a ten-piece band that has been performing together for over 12 years!  Performing a wide variety of pieces from Frank Sinatra to the Beatles to the Rolling Stones and more, this band has roots in Southern Delaware and enjoys playing to their home crowd!

All Weekend:  Rehoboth & Dewey Beach 29th Annual Sidewalk Sale
It’s a great weekend to find deals!  Shop downtown Rehoboth Beach, downtown Dewey Beach & even Route One!  Sales run from 10am-8pm (although some stores may have different hours), Friday 5/18-Sunday, 5/20.

Saturday, May 19th:  Kickoff to Summer Party at the Rehoboth Beach Museum
Music, food, a raffle, prizes and more!  $25 for members, $35 for non-members.  Reservations are required. 4pm-6pm

Saturday, May 19th: Youth Fishing Tournament
7am-2pm; Rain date, Sunday, 5/20.  Kids 15 and under are invited to participate in Cape Henlopen’s annual Youth Fishing Tournament.  Cost is $10 per entrant and registration is at the fishing pier in Cape Henlopen State Park.  The first 50 entrants get free t-shirts & prizes are awarded!  Fishing was never my thing, but when we were kids, my brother and cousins always participated in this event and had a great time!

Saturday, May 19th: Maritime Day Celebration
9am-4pm; National Maritime Day was first celebrated in 1933.  Come celebrate it this year at the Lewes Ferry Terminal.  Admission is free and the ferry bridge and engine room will be open for tours.  There will also be art & maritime exhibits.

Fun Friday! Italian Festival! – 10am-10pm
Most shops and restaurants in downtown, historic Lewes are taking part in this fun festival!  Shops and business will feature special Italian-themed specials and restaurants will sell a wide variety of Italian favorites and specialties.  There will also be live music and entertainment for all ages!  You can check out the YouTube video the Lewes Chamber of Commerce sponsored by clicking here!

Festa Italiana at the Zwaanendael Museum – 10am-4:30pm
A variety of activities and programs centered around Italian history will supplement the Italian Festival.  Admission is free and all events are open to the public. 

All Weekend – Little Shop of Horrors
Head into Rehoboth and take in a performance of Clear Space Theater’s Little Shop of Horrors.  This classic pop-rock musical, based on a 1960’s film is a perennial favorite.  Read a summary or purchase tickets here.  Shows are at 7pm Friday and Saturday and 3pm Sunday.  Tickets are $30 with discounted tickets available for seniors, children, and students.  They also offer several different deals on tickets if you’re interested!

Friday, April 20th-Sunday, April 22nd – Pork in Park BBQ Festival in Salisbury, MD
This family-friendly BBQ festival is the largest KCBS Festival on the East Coast.  Last year there were over 140 competitive BBQ teams and more than 35,000 attendees!  Competing teams will be cooking up succulent pork, chicken, and beef in hopes of winning cash and prizes.  Categories to be judged include whole hog, beef, chicken, pork, ribs, “anything butt”, seafood, and dessert.  This competition takes place within an exciting festival that is fun for the whole family.  Enjoy live music and entertainment, amusement park rides, and delicious BBQ and festival foods.  For a list of events and schedule of activities check out this link.  Cost is $2 per person, and kids 12 and under are free.  Festival hours are Friday 4pm-10pm, Saturday 10am-10pm, and Sunday 11am-5pm.

Saturday, April 21st – The 23rd Annual Ocean to Bay Bike Tour in Bethany Beach, DE
More than a thousand cyclists of all ages participate in this yearly event.  This event is sold out for participation, but there will be festivities at the start/finish line from 10am-1pm for those who want to head down to cheer on the participants!  The start/finish line is at Garfield & Pennsylvania, next to PNC Bank in Bethany Beach.  Check out this link for more info.

The Georgetown Public Library will be hosting a program called “The Atlantic Pearl Harbor: German U-Boats, Fort Miles and the Delaware Coastline” at 11am.  Hear about Fort Miles in Lewes and the terror threat presented to the East Coast by German U-boats during World War II.  This event is free and open to the public, but you must register by contacting the Georgetown Public Library (302-856-7958).
