Seaford-Born Field Hockey Player Heads To London

One of the members of the U.S. Women’s Field Hockey Team headed to London at the end of this month is originally from Sussex County! Shannon Taylor was born in Seaford before moving with her family to Midlothian, Virginia when she was young. Shannon is a 2008 graduate of Syracuse University who will be going on to an assistant coaching position at University of Massachusetts after competing on the U.S. Olympic team this summer. Taylor has been part of the U.S. National program since 2006, was part of the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2010 and helped the 2011 Pan American Team win their first-ever gold medal and qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games. Taylor’s collegiate career included 218 points, and according to some sources she has one of the best penalty corner shots in the country. So, tune in to the women’s field hockey competitions in London next month and cheer on this locally born athlete and rest of the U.S. Women’s Field Hockey Team on their quest for gold!
