Friday, May 24th: Lightship Overfalls Opening Party & Auction
This year celebrates the 75th birthday for “Big Red,” the historic lightship in Lewes.  This fabulous annual party will take place from 6pm-9pm at the Virden Center on the University of Delaware Marine Campus.  Tickets are $40 in advance or $45 at the door until they are sold out.  This event is a great kick-off to the summer season and includes food and drink, games, raffles, silent and live auctions and more.  For more information or to purchase tickets, check out the Overfalls website.

Saturday, May 25th: Horseshoe Crab & Shorebird Festival
This annual event is hosted by the Milton Chamber of Commerce and will run from 10am-4pm at Milton Memorial Park.  This will be the tenth year for the festival, which boast over 1500 visitors yearly.  The day includes arts and crafts, boat rides on the Broadkill River, canoe trips on Prime Hook Creek, games, food, music, trail walks, kids’ train rides, a scavenger hunt, and more!  A shuttle bus is available to transport guests to and from the Refuge.  For more information contact 302-684-1101.

Five Places To Party on New Year’s Eve

Looking for a local place to party on New Year’s Eve?  Check out these five options:

1.  In Rehoboth Beach – check out the Atlantic Sands Hotel.  Tickets are $125 and include live entertainment, a DJ, deluxe dinner buffet, cocktail reception, five hours of open bar and a champagne toatst – 302-227-2511.

2.  In Bethany Beach – Mango’s on the boardwalk at Garfield Parkway has two seatings.  The first from 5pm-8pm is $35 per person and $12 for children.  The second, from 8pm-1ais $89 per person and includes a limited menu, drinks & live entertainment from the Island Boyz.  Reservations required – 302-537-6621.

3.  In Millsboro – Riverside Grill’s New Year’s Party begins at 8pm and includes hourly door prizes, drink specials, a champagne toast and entertainment by DJ Reesie.  Reservations required – 302-945-3711.

4.  In Georgetown – New Year’s Eve at the Brick Hotel begins with open seating at 5pm.  The 4 Course Pri Fixe dinner is $55 per person and will be served from 5pm-10pm.  Seating is open, but reservations are strongly suggested.  In addition Fonsie Scott will perform his keyboard magic from 6pm-10pm and Cathy Gorman will ring in the New Year singing from 10pm-1am.  302-855-5800.

5.  In Lewes – If you’re looking for something a little different, check out the Annual New Year Anchor Drop on the Lightship Overfalls.  This annual blast takes place from 11:30pm-12:30am, is free to all and includes fire pits, music, & hot chocolate.

Friday, 9/14 – Lightship Overfalls FallFest
The Overfalls Foundation will host its 4th annual FallFest on the lightship grounds from 5pm-7pm Friday evening.  The Overfalls is one of only 17 remaining lightships out of the 179 original ships built between 1820 and 1952.  It was designated as a National Historic Landmark last year and is one of only seven in the country still open to the public.  This event celebrates the history of our very own landmark and is free to the public.  Everyone is asked to bring an appetizer to share.

Saturday, 9/15 – Arts & Jazz Festival
The Freeman Stage at Bayside (31750 Lake View Drive in Selbyville) hosts this awesome event from 10am-6pm on Saturday.  Some of Delmarva’s finest artists will have work displayed and talented jazz artists such as Joe Baione, Grace Kelly, Ron Carter and more will perform.  For more information call 302-436-3015.

Saturday, 9/15 — Fenwick Flicks
The Bethany-Fenwick Chamber of Commerce hosts this final free family movie of the season at dusk on Saturday (approx. 8:30ish).  The film this week is The Zookeeper and it will be played on the beach at Bayard Street in Fenwick Island.  In case of inclement weather, the movie will be on Sunday evening.  For more information call 302-539-2100.
