Saturday, October 19^th: Delmarva’s Best Ghost Stories
With Halloween just around the corner, head to Wilmington University (41 Rehoboth Ave) in Rehoboth Beach to beef up your repertoire. This workshop includes ghost stories from Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Stories include Bigg Lizz, Patty Cannon, the haunted governor’s mansion, Fort Delaware, phantoms at the Cape May-Lewes Ferry and more. Cost is $25 and you must be preregistered to attend. The workshop runs from 11am-noon. Call 302-227-6295 to register.

Saturday, October 19^th: Herbal Soap Making from Scratch
You can learn the secrets of handcrafted soap in this introductory course. The class includes hands on demonstrations and instruction about ingredients, safety, and more. Attendees will take home their own freshly made soap to cure and cut at home. This class will take place at “The Soap Fairy” in Milford Delaware and is sponsored by the Rehoboth Beach campus of Wilmington University. Cost is $50 per person and includes all materials. The class runs from 1pm-3pm and you must pre-register. Call 302-227-6295 to register, and be sure to wear clothes that can get dirty.

Saturday, October 19^th: Wine, Cheese, and Beer Tasting
The Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park will host their 8^th annual Wine, Cheese & Beer Tasting at the Officer’s Club in Cape Henlopen from 4pm-6pm. Admission is $20 in advance or $24 at the door. You can purchase tickets (which also cover your entrance to the park) at the park office or the Lewes Chamber of Commerce.

Saturday, October 19^th: Haunted Southern Delaware Tour
Another great way to prepare for Halloween, the Sussex Heritage Tour Series will explore the topic of “Haunted Southern Delaware” this weekend. The tour runs from 4pm-10:30pm and begin and end at the Cape May-Lewes Ferry terminal in Lewes. Stops on this tour include the Cannonball House in Lewes, haunted hotels, Unknown Sailors Graveyard and more. Tickets are $40 and must be purchased in advance. Dinner is included in the price. You can claim one of the limited spaces by calling the Lewes Historical Society at 302-645-7670 ext. 10.

Saturday, October 19^th: Orion String Quartet
If classical music is more your style, Coastal Concerts presents the Orion String Quartet at 7pm on Saturday night. The concert takes place at Bethel United Methodist Church (Fourth & Market Streets) in Lewes. Tickets are $30 to see one of America’s top chamber ensembles perform.

Sunday, October 20^th: Birding Field Trip
Birding guides will lead a Birding Field Trip from 8am-noon at the Prime Hook National Wild Life Refuge. Come prepared for any weather and learn about the bird species that frequent the refuge in fall. Bring your binoculars, field guide and a spotting scope if you have one. This week’s history happy hour will feature Jim Bertholet presenting “The Life and Work of a Surfman in the US Life Saving Service 1870s-1915.” This talk will take place at the Lewes Life Saving Station at the canal and Front Street. All talks begin at 4pm.

Saturday, September 7^th: 8^th Annual Chocolate Tasting in the Park
The Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park sponsor this annual event at the Biden Center in Cape Henlopen State Park. The event featuring all homemade chocolate runs from 1pm-4pm. Admission is $5 and gets you 6 tastings. For more information call 302-858-6127.

Saturday, September 7^th; Chicken Plunge & Beach Party
The chicken plunge and beach party is a fun, family event. It runs from 11am-2pm and cost is $10 per adult and $5 per child. The beach party is held on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk at Grenoble Place.

Saturday, September 7^th: 13 Annual Riverwalk Freedom Festival
Head to downtown Milford for the 13^th Annual Riverwalk Festival on Saturday for all day events including a burger eating contest, downtown scavenger hunt, cornhole tournament, children’s activities, and more. For more information, check out this link.

Saturday, September 7^th: 35^th Annual Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival
The town of Bethany Beach will hold their annual arts festival downtown from 10am-5pm on Saturday. The event includes over 100 fine artists featuring paintings, wood work, metal work, pottery, baskets, jewelry and more. This year will also include sections for farmers market goods, wine tasting and a children’s corner.

Saturday, September 7^th-Sunday, September 8^th: Nanticoke Indian Powwow
The 36^th annual Nanticoke Indian Powow will include American Indian drummers and singers, Native American foods, Authentic Indian Arts and Crafts and more. Over 40 tribes from across the USA will be present. This event runs from 10am Saturday through 5pm on Sunday. Cost is $10 per vehicle for parking and entry. For more information call 302-945-7022. Saturday, June 8^th: 3^rd Annual Disc Golf Learn & Play
Join disc golf professionals at Cape Henlopen State Park from 8am-12pm to learn how to play disc golf! Cost is $10 per person.

Sunday, June 9^th: Adelante in Concert
Relax in Olly’s garden at All Saint’s Episcopal Church (18 Olive Ave) in Rehoboth Beach and enjoy the smooth jazz trio of Adelante. No charge, bring a lawn chair or blanket. The concert runs from 2pm-3pm.

Sunday, June 9^th: Fish ‘n’ Kids
Head down to Lewes Canalfront Park from 10am-12pm for the 3^rd annual Fish ‘n’ Kids event hosted by Quest Fitness and Kayak. The day will be filled with events for kids from ages 3-12. Favorite events include building and using your own fishing rod and embossing a fish t-shirt. The first 50 kids get a free t-shirt, or you are welcome to bring your own. Water and fishing related games will be plentiful and a surf-fishing/net-casting demonstration will be provided. This event is free for everyone. For more information call 302-644-7020.

Weekend Update: May 31st-June 2nd

Summer season is officially underway! Here are some fun activities going on this weekend:

Saturday, June 1^st: Prime Hook/Lower Sussex Bassmasters’ Youth Fishing Tournament
This 10^th annual event takes place on the Broadkill River in Milton Memorial Park. The tournament begins at 9am with registration starting at 8am and ends at 1pm. The event is for anglers 15 years of age and younger. There will also be t-shirt printing, hot dogs, soda, and prizes! Everything, including bait, hooks and weights are free! Just bring a fishing pole. Fishing can be done by boat (provided by volunteers) or by bank. Raindate is Sunday, June 2^nd.

Saturday, June 1^st: National Trails Day
Join in helping to clean up the trails at Cape Henlopen State Park to celebrate National Trails Day. Cleanup is from 9am-1pm and volunteers are meeting at the “Hawk Watch” pavilion.

Sunday, June 2^nd: Picnic in the Park
The Friends of Canalfront Park will host their second annual “Picnic in the Park” at Canalfront Park in Lewes from 12pm-3pm on Sunday. Fourteen Lewes restaurants, including The Buttery, Café Azafran, and Irish Eyes will offer tasting at this event and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be served. Kids are welcome and events will include old-fashioned carnival games, face painting, a balloon artist and more. Admission is $10 in advance, $15 at the door and $5 for kids under 12. Friday, May 17^th – Remember Lewes
As part of the Lewes Historical Society’s “Remembering Lewes” series Churck Fithian will bring his extensive knowledge to the Lewes Historical Society when he presents a program about Delaware’s role in the War of 1812. The program runs from 7:30pm-9pm and will be held at the Lewes Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall on Kings Highway. Everyone is invited to attned this free educational event.

Saturday, May 18^th – Youth Finish Tournament
The Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park will host their annual youth fishing tournament on Saturday from 8am-11am, with a rain date of Sunday, 5/19. This tournament is open to all kids ages 16 and younger. The entrance fee is $10 and the first 50 registrants receive a free t-shirt! Prizes are awarded.

Saturday, May 18^th – Maritime Day 2013
Congress first declared Maritime Day in 1933, and the Cape May-Lewes ferry will honor that celebration on Saturday at the Lewes Ferry Terminal with a ceremony at 1pm. Admission is free and includes engine room and bridge tours, maritime displays and more. Food and drink will be available and the event will take place rain or shine.

Saturday, May 18^th – Pooches in the Park
If your four-legged friends are more like family, consider this event which will take place from 1pm-3pm on Saturday at Canalfront Park in Lewes. The event features specialized and pet-friendly vendors, a doggie spa, agility and obedience demos, and more. Admission is $5 per pup, but free for their two-legged friends and owners. One dog per handler and all dogs must be on a non-retractable leash with a maximum length of six feet.

Sunday, May 19^th – Fitness ‘n Fun
Quest Fitness and Kayak is hosting its 2^nd annual “Fitness ‘n Fun from 8am-12pm in Canalfront Park in Lewes on Sunday morning. This event is completely free and open to anyone. Saturday, 5/11: Dewey Beach Arts Fest
Head to the corner of Dagsworthy Ave and the beach for the second annual Dewey Beach Arts Fest will feature over 60 vendors, crafters and local artists as well as live music, food, activities for kids, a silent auction, and more! Saturday, 5/11: Lewes Fire Department Auxiliary “Fire” and Plant Sale
The Lewes Fire Department Auxiliary is holding its 2^nd annual “fire sale” and Mother’s Day plant sale at Station 1 on Savannah Road from 9am-3pm. In addition to plant there will be a variety of vendors selling gifts, crafts, candles, and more. There will also be refreshments for sale. Saturday, 5/11: Flowering Wonders

Thursday, April 11^th-Saturday, April 13^th: The Lewes Tulip Festival
This annual event celebrating the Dutch heritage of Lewes takes place all day beginning on Thursday. There will be Trolley Tours for $10 each day at 11:15am and 12:45pm. Additional tours will also be held at 2:45pm on Friday and Saturday. Reservations for the Tulips Trolley Tour can be made by calling the Lewes Chamber of Commerce (302-645-8073). There is also a Tip Toe To The Tulips Map and tickets that will be distributed, and you can enter to win prizes based on your participation. In addition to the tulips there will be several exhibits in and around historic Lewes all weekend long.

Friday, April 12^th: “An American Tapestry” by the Delaware Choral Society
The Delaware Choral Society under the direction of Dr. James Wilson will present a concert featuring music from 20^th Century America, including songs by Leonard Bernstein, Samual Barber, Randall Thompson, and more. The concert will be held at the Holy Cross Catholic Church (631 South State Street) in Dover. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for seniors 65+ and military, and free to anyone under the age of 21. For reservations or information call 302-245-0449.

Saturday, April 13^th: Antiques and Plant Sale
The Lewes Historical Society will host their annual Tulip Festival sale from 10am-4pm at the Rabbit’s Ferry House in the Historical Center Complex (110 Shipcarpenter Street). The sale will feature antiques, collectibles, and local plants and all proceeds will benefit the Lewes Historical Society. For more information call 302-645-7670.

Saturday, April 13^th: Flea Market
The Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park are holding a flea market in the parking lot of the Seaside Nature Center from 9am-3pm on Saturday. In case of rain, the event will be held indoors in the auditorium. If you have items that you would like to donate you can bring them to the auditorium in the Nature Center from 10am-1pm on Friday. Items must be clean and in good condition.

Saturday, April 13^th: Rummage Sale

Saturday, April 6^th-Sunday, April 7^th – Commemoration of the War of 1812
Join the Lewes Historical Society in commemorating the 200^th Anniversary of the War of 1812 with events all weekend long. Events begin Saturday at 12:30 with the Guns of Fort McHenry at Cape Henlopen State Park until 2:30, also from 12:30-5pm there will be special War of 1812 presentations at St. Peter’s Church Hall on Mulberry Street in Lewes. Additionally, the travling exhibit “War of 1812: A Nation Forged By War” will be at the Ellegood House at the Lewes Historical Society Complex (110 Shipcarpenter Street in Lewes) all weekend and through Labor Day. On Sunday, from 10am-3pm the Fort McHenry Guard will be at the Lewes Historical Society Complex (110 Shipcarpenter Street) in Lewes, demonstrating musket drill. Their Fife & Drum Corps will perform as well. There will be events for the whole family at this time, and events will continue throughout the afternoon. Sunday, April 7^th – Beach Bridal Show
If you or someone you know is planning a wedding, head to the Nassau Valley Vineyards (32165 Winery Way) in Lewes for the annual Beach Bridal Show co-hosted by Delaware Today and Delaware Bride Magazine. The show runs from noon-3:30pm and features live entertainment, a wedding trends fashion show, delicious hors d’oeuvres, top of the line wedding professionals, and awesome door prizes. Weekend Update: March 29th-31st

This weekend is Easter weekend, and there are several great events going on in and around the area:

Friday, March 29^th: 45^th Annual Great Delaware Kite Festival
This fun, family event takes place on the Cape Henlopen State Park Parade Grounds from 10am-3pm Friday. There is no entry fee to compete and competitions take place in three age groups. Children (12 and under), Teens (13-17), and Adults (18 and up). Each category presents awards for store-bought and home-made. There are special class awards for Open Individual Ballet and Individual Precision, as well as awards for most senior flyer, youngest flyer, flyer furthest from home, smallest kite, and largest kite. The Highest Kite Competition is open to everyone and takes place around 12:15pm. There is no fee to watch, although entrance fees to Cape Henlopen do apply. Competition begins at 10am, and there will be several vendors on site selling kites and supplies for those who wish to compete but do not have the necessary equipment. Registration begins at 9am. The Child and Teen competitions are in the morning, followed by the Highest Kite at 12:15 and then adult, individual ballet and individual precision competitions in the afternoon.

Friday, March 29^th-Saturday, March 30^th: Delaware Music Festival
Rusty Rudder (113 Dickinson Street) in Dewey Beach brings back its annual Delaware Music Festival this weekend. Over the course of two evenings there will be 25 different bands on 4 different stages. The event is free, but for ages 21 and up only. Concerts start at 9pm Friday and 6pm Saturday. For more information call 302-227-3888.

Saturday, March 30^th: First Annual Lewes Egg Hunt
Bring the whole family to Canalfront Park for Lewes’ 1^st annual egg hunt! The Easter Bunny will be there and thousands of eggs will be hidden. In the event of rain, the hunt will take place indoors at the park building. This event is recommended for children 10 and under. Children must have a ticket to take place, and tickets are limited. Cost is $5 for one ticket or $10 for 2 or more children in the same family. To purchase tickets, go to lewescanalfrontpark.org.

Saturday, March 30^th: 13^th Annual Easter Egg Hunt in Georgetown
The annual Georgetown Egg Hunt is held at the Marvel Carriage Museum from 11am-1pm. Admission is free and includes crafts, food, face painting, moon bounce, train rides, pictures with the Easter Bunny and more. The egg hunt starts at noon. For more information call 302-856-1544.

Saturday, March 30^th: 5^th Annual Alley Oop Egg Scoop
This year, Alley Oop Skim will host three separate egg hunts in Dewey Beach at New Orleans Street. Ages 5 and under will hunt at 10am, ages 6-8 at 11am, and ages 9-11 at noon. Children must be registered, and a $1 admission fee is due at check in. To register call 302-227-7087.

5 Off Season Activities to Enjoy

Off season at the beach can be very relaxing. If you’re looking for something to do in the Lewes/Rehoboth Beach area, check out the following activities:

1. See a movie. Check out Movies at Midway for a popular feature film, or check out rehobothfilm.com for a more artsy choice and schedule of events.

2. Visit an Art Gallery. Lewes and Rehoboth are both brimming with art galleries and many of them are open during the off season. They are definitely worth a look.

3. Visit Cape Henlopen State Park. I know I keep going on and on about Cape Henlopen, but it’s seriously worth a visit! Visit my previous post for more info.

4. Shopping. Route 1 through Rehoboth Beach is brimming with outlets that are much more pleasant to shop at when they aren’t filled with beach-going tourists.

5. Walk on the beach or boardwalk. Walking on the beach in the winter, when it is all yours to enjoy alone, is a beautiful way to spend an afternoon. If walking on the sand doesn’t thrill you, you can stroll the Rehoboth Boardwalk instead. The view is equally lovely.

Spotlight on Winter at Cape Henlopen State Park

Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes, Delaware attracts thousands of visitors during the summer months when sunbathing, sand castle building, and swimming are prime activities for beach-goers. But did you know that Cape Henlopen has a lot to offer in the winter months too? Here are 5 great activities for all ages that can be done any time of year:

Visit the Seaside Nature Center
Open from 9am-4pm all year round, theSeaside Nature Center has many exhibits and displays, tanks full of local fish, and even a touch-tank! It’s definitely worth a visit.
Take a walk on the beach
Who says the beach is only for summer? Taking a winter walk along the beach is invigorating! Not only can you enjoy different scenery than in the summer months, but there are no crowds to fight for it! I can’t think of anything better than a relaxing stroll under sun, listening to the waves crash nearby. So, what are you waiting for? Bundle up and get out there! There’s nothing more beautiful than a beach you have all to yourself.
Hike or bike the trails
There are 8 trails within Cape Henlopen, ranging from just over half a mile to 5 miles in length. Some trails are designated for hiking only, but there are lovely, paved bike trails as well, and even an equestrian trail. If you like to hike, you can even take part in the Delaware State Parks Trail Challenge – 3 of the trails are within Cape Henlopen! If biking is more your thing, stop by the Seaside Nature Center (see #1!) to borrow a free bike from the Friends Park Pedal program and pedal around these beautiful trails! Check out one of the organized programs
Cape Henlopen offers a wide variety of public programs for all different ages. Many programs are family-friendly and some are even geared specifically for children! Upcoming programs include a Winter Moon Hike, Awesome Amphibians, and a Youth Saltwater Tying Workshop. Some events require a small fee, but most are free. Pre-registration is often required, even for free events, so it’s best to call early and save your spot! There is a complete list of events on their website, and there’s plenty to choose from even in the winter months!
Explore history
Fort Miles was a key piece of our nation’s coastal defense during World War II, and it is located in what is now Cape Henlopen State Park. Fort Miles is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is a great place for families and history buffs alike! So take a tour, participate in the interpretive program, and find out more about the role of the Delaware shore in World War II. The Fort Miles Orientation Building is open from 10am-4pm on Fridays and Saturdays through the end of March. Beginning it April is open from 10am-4pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays as well.

The last weekend of 2012 is a slow one in the area. Everyone is gearing up for New Years Parties! At 2pm Thursday, Friday & Saturday a naturalist will present cool fish facts during a fish feeding at the Seaside Nature Center. The Nature Center is also open for touring from 9pm-4pm and the borrow a bike program is available from 9am-3pm all weekend, weather permitting.

Lots of Halloween events going on at the beach this weekend!

All Weekend: 23^rd Annual Sea Witch Halloween & Fiddlers’ Festival
This spooky annual event kicks off its 23^rd year on Friday, October 26^th. The heart of this event is in downtown Rehoboth beach, although it overflows into Dewey Beach and on to Coastal Highway. This year’s theme is Sea Witch is Smokin’ and there are events for all ages. There will be a Tykes on Bikes parade on Friday, Costume Parade on Saturday, Sea Witch Hunt, Broom Tossing Contest, Make Your Own Scarecrow, Trick or Treating for kids, Fiddlers’ Festival, Magic Shows and much, much more!!! All Weekend: Children’s Fantasy Trail in Lewes
This 24^th annual event will be held at the Nature Center in Cape Henlopen State Park. Children are encouraged to wear their costumes and trick-or-treat on the trail. Cost is $5 per person and the trail is open from 6-8:30pm on Friday and Saturday and 6-7:30pm on Sunday. After the trail families may enjoy entertainment the includes magicians, sing-alongs, juggling and more. There will be refreshments for sale as well. This event benefits the Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park.

Saturday, October 27^th: Wags, Witches, and Warlocks
This 2^nd annual Halloween Festival includes a costume contests, pumpkin decorating, trick or treating, hay rides, crafts, music, and more. The parade begins at 10am and the rain date is Sunday, October 28^th. For more information, check out this link.

Saturday, October 20^th — Wine, Cheese & Beer Tasting
The Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park are hosting their 7^th annual Wine, Cheese, and Beer Tasting from 4pm-6pm on Saturday. Admission is $20 in advance or $24 at the door and of course you must have proper identification. Your ticket also covers your park entrance free. This event takes place at the Officer’s Club in Cape Henlopen State Park and all proceeds go to benefit the park. For more information check out this link.

Sunday, October 21^st – Delaware Wine & Beer Festival

Thursday, September 6^th-Saturday, September 8^th: Riverwalk Freedom Festival in Milford
This annual event in Milford begins with a 5K run/walk on Thursday, and continues from 4pm-9pm on Friday with a “Park Party” at Bicentennial Park. The “Park Party” is free and includes food, vendors, live entertainment, a boat parade, and fireworks at dusk. The festival concludes on Saturday with events from 10am-4pm including a vendors, food, live entertainment, a car show, and more. The annual Duck Dash will take place on Saturday with $350 in prizes up for grabs including $200 to the first place winner! Saturday, September 8^th: 34^th Annual Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival
Head down to the boardwalk in Bethany for a premier fine arts festival this weekend. Featuring over 100 skilled artisans, this juried show attracts more than 7,500 visitors yearly. The festival takes place from 10am-5pm on the boardwalk and surrounding streets, with a silent auction to benefit the art programs at four local elementary schools from 10am-4pm. Participating artisans work in basketry, clay, drawing, fiber, glass, jewelry, metal, mixed media, painting, photography, wood, and more.

Saturday, September 8^th – 7^th Annual Chocolate Tasting in the Park
Head into Cape Henlopen State Park to sample all kinds of tasty chocolate treats! The $5 admission includes 6 samples. All the chocolate is homemade! This delicious festival runs from 1pm-4pm.

Saturday, September 8^th – Town-Wide Yard Sale in Milton
If you like to score deals then check out the annual town-wide yard sale in Milton beginning at 9am.

Sunday, September 9^th: Concert in Cupola Park
This concert at Cupola Park is Millsboro features Jr. Wilson with special guiest Kathie Martin. The show begins at 6pm and is free for everyone. Don’t forget to bring a lawn chair!

Sunday, September 9^th: Chicken Plunge and Beach Party

It’s a great weekend to find deals! Shop downtown Rehoboth Beach, downtown Dewey Beach & even Route One! Sales run from 10am-8pm (although some stores may have different hours), Friday 5/18-Sunday, 5/20.

Saturday, May 19^th: Kickoff to Summer Party at the Rehoboth Beach Museum
Music, food, a raffle, prizes and more! $25 for members, $35 for non-members. Reservations are required. 4pm-6pm

Saturday, May 19^th: Youth Fishing Tournament
7am-2pm; Rain date, Sunday, 5/20. Kids 15 and under are invited to participate in Cape Henlopen’s annual Youth Fishing Tournament. Cost is $10 per entrant and registration is at the fishing pier in Cape Henlopen State Park. The first 50 entrants get free t-shirts & prizes are awarded! Fishing was never my thing, but when we were kids, my brother and cousins always participated in this event and had a great time!

Saturday, May 19^th: Maritime Day Celebration
9am-4pm; National Maritime Day was first celebrated in 1933. Come celebrate it this year at the Lewes Ferry Terminal. Admission is free and the ferry bridge and engine room will be open for tours. There will also be art & maritime exhibits.

Spotlight on Geocaching

Delaware has its own geocaching trail that includes 75 locations statewide, with many in Sussex County, including a couple in Cape Henlopen State Park! If you love being outdoors, surrounded by the beauty of nature then you should try geocaching.

Have you heard of geocaching? Geocaching is basically a big outdoor treasure hunt! Participants use a GPS or other navigational techniques to locate small boxes called “caches” and hide other caches. Currently there are over 5 million geocachers in the world with caches in over 100 countries and on all seven continents. Delaware has its own geocaching trail that includes 75 locations statewide, with many in Sussex County, including a couple in Cape Henlopen State Park! If you love being outdoors, surrounded by the beauty of nature then you should try geocaching. It’s fun whether you just try it once or make it a regular day of it!

Spotlight on Fort Miles

Fort Miles is/will be receiving a lot of attention in the coming days because a relic from World War II is currently making its way toward Fort Miles. The 16 inch gun headed to Cape Henlopen was part of the heavy weaponry on the battleship USS Missouri.

Fort Miles was a key piece of our nation’s coastal defense during World War II, and it is located in what is now Cape Henlopen State Park. Fort Miles is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is a great place to learn about the role of the Delaware shore during World War II. Fort Miles is/will be receiving a lot of attention in the coming days because a relic from World War II is currently making its way toward Fort Miles. The 16 inch gun headed to Cape Henlopen was part of the heavy weaponry on the battleship USS Missouri. Although this exact gun was never at Fort Miles, it is similar to the two Army guns housed there, ready to defend the coastline should the need arise. The gun is 66 feet long, weights a quarter of a million pounds, and could shoot a 1-ton shell around 23 miles! This massive gun is set to arrive in Georgetown on Monday, April 16^th and make its way to Cape Henlopen from there. Nobody is exactly sure when the gun will arrive at Fort Miles, but in the meantime you can take a tour or participate in the interpretive program at Fort Miles. The Orientation Building is open from 10am-4pm on Tuesday-Saturday.
