Friday, August 31^st – Bronx Wanderers Doo-Wop Celebration
Enjoy this recreation of 50s and 60s music in an evening of toe-tapping, hand clapping, and dancing during this energetic doo-wop and rock-n-roll concert! Tickets are $10 and kids are free. Concert is at the Freeman Stage at Bayside (31750 Lake View Drive in Selbyville) and begins at 7pm. For more information call 302-436-3015.

Saturday, September 1^st – MSO Fireworks Season Finale
The Freeman Stage at Bayside (31750 Lake View Drive in Selbyville) has cooked up another fun, family event. The internationally recognized Morgan State University Choir and Opera Workshop along with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony and Maestro Benichou will perform vocal and instrumental favorites including selections from the West Side Story. The show begins at 7pm, is totally free, and will conclude with fireworks! For more information call 302-436-3015.

Saturday, September 1^st – Car Show
Jake’s Wayback Burgers in Millsboro (26670 Centerview Drive) will host a car show from 4pm-8:45pm. Head on over to see some classics!

Saturday, September 1^st-Sunday, September 2^nd – Broadway at the Beach
Head down to Clearspace Theatre in Rehoboth Beach for an original revue of musical theater hits that are sure to please! Show starts at 7:30pm, tickets range from $15-30/each. For more info or to purchase tickets, check out this link.

Sunday, September 2^nd – Breakfast at the Bethany Beach Firehouse
The heroes of Bethany continue their summer tradition this weekend! If you haven’t gone yet, you should try it… This delicious, all you can eat breakfast is hosted at the firehouse in Bethany Beach (215 Hollywood Street). Enjoy a tour of the firehouse plus an all you can eat feast of eggs, French toast, biscuits and gravy, potatoes, muffins, bacon, sausage, juice, and coffee. There are also special activities to keep the kids busy. Breakfast is $10 for adults and $5 for children over 5 and free for kids ages 5 and under. 8am-11am. For more information call 302-539-7700.

Weekend Update: July 27-29

Okay, so I know this is supposed to be the weekend update, but there’s one cool event going on tomorrow, so I’m throwing that in here too! Here are my weekend suggestions:

Thursday, July 26^th – Best of Delaware Party
Head up to Dover for a celebration of Delaware Today’s annual Best of Delaware issue. The Best of Delaware Party is a fun event that celebrates the state’s favorites but also raises money for charity. Year after year it continues to be super popular. Tickets are $55 in advance or $70 at the door and the event takes place at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino (1131 North DuPont Hwy in Dover), so you can make a weekend of it! The party is from 6pm-9pm, although you can purchase a ticket for the VIP preview party that begins at 5pm. Tickets for the VIP party are $75 and must be purchased in advance. There is an after party beginning at 9pm at Fire & Ice. In addition to exhibitors from across the state, several local favorites will be represented including Abbott’s Grill, Baywood Greens, Candy Kitchen Shoppes, Dogfish Head Brewery, and Grotto Pizza! Friday, July 27^th-Saturday, July 28^th – Delaware State Fair
The State Fair is wrapping up this weekend in Harrington. You can check out this post that I wrote about the fair last weekend, or go straight to the source and plan your weekend at the fair here.

Friday, July 27^th – Free Concert at the Village of Five Points
Check out “The Funsters” in concert at the Community Center Lawn at the Villages of Five Points. This is a free event. The concert is from 7:30pm-9:30pm.

Friday, July 27^th – A1A Jimmy Buffett Tribute Concert
A1A is the only Jimmy Buffett tribute band personally sanctioned by Jimmy Buffett himself! Enjoy Buffett hits along with other summertime hits and some original music too. Tickets are $10 and kids are free. The concert is at the Freeman Stage at Bayside (31750 Lake View Drive in Selbyville) from 7pm-9pm.

There’s a lot going on in Sussex County this weekend! Here are a few highlights:
Thursday, July 13th-Saturday, July 14th – Nanticoke Riverfest
The theme for the this 18th annual festival hosted by the city of Seaford is “Having a ball on the Nanticoke!” This festival highlights the Nanticoke River, takes place throughout downtown Seaford, and offers fun and excitement for all ages! Highlights of this event include live entertainment, the Duck Dash, carnival rides, a motorcycle & car show, canoe races, and competition events including: cornhole, duck calling, tractor pull, and for the kids, coloring! Of course, the biggest event is the float-in on Saturday afternoon when literally hundreds of people float down the Nanticoke River in all kinds of crazy contraptions! This is an event worth checking out for sure! For more information and a complete schedule of events, check out the official website (link above). Believe me, it’s a website worth checking out because there is way more detail then I could ever give you in a quick blurb. My best advice is to head to Seaford and check it out this weekend!

Saturday, July 14^th – Milton Garden & House Tour
Enjoy touring some of the most beautiful public and private gardens around, as well as gorgeous private homes that are open for viewing. The variety will astound you! As the name implies, this event takes place throughout Milton. It runs from 10am-4pm, and you must have a ticket. For tickets or more information, call the Milton Garden Club at 302-684-3804.

Saturday, July 14^th – Lewes Summer Craft Fair
Enjoy high-quality craftsmanship while contributing to raise funds for the Lewes Historical Society. Over 80 vendors will display a variety of arts & crafts. Live music, food, and fun will round out the day! The show runs from 9am-4pm at the Lewes Historical Society Complex (110 Shipcarpenter Street). Cost is $5 per visitor, kids under 12 are free.

Spotlight on Matt’s Fish Camp in Bethany Beach

Matt of Matt’s Fish Camp in Bethany Beach focuses on using locally grown, fresh ingredients to create a high quality seafood experience. Located at 28635 Coastal Highway, Matt’s Fish Camp is a casual dining restaurant with delicious food and superb service! You will be happy with almost anything off their menu, but my recommendation would be to stay away from the less-than-perfectly-prepared mussels. But, if you’re in the mood for crab cakes, Matt’s is your place. Their crab cakes are mouth-watering and everyone raves about them! Prices at Matt’s are reasonable, and the absolute freshness of the food is palatable. So, if you’re looking for a place to enjoy a low-key lunch or dinner with friends, be sure to check out Matt’s Fish Camp next time you’re in Bethany.

Last year more than 80,000 people participated in this popular event! The spectacular fireworks display is set to begin around 9:15, but could begin as early as 8pm if the weather is threatening. Rain date is Thursday, July 5th. For more information call 302-227-2772. Remember that the beach and boardwalk will be packed, so arrive early!

Lewes Old Fashioned 4^th of July and Do-Dah Parade
Head down to Second Street in Lewes for old fashioned games and other activities beginning at 9am. There is also a decorated boat parade on the canal that begins at 2pm. Then, from 5pm-7pm join in (or watch!) the Infamous Lewes Doo-Dah Parade! With no need to register or plan ahead, you can just jump in any time to become part of this fun, family activity!

Bethany Beach 4^th of July Parade and Fireworks
Gather in downtown Bethany beginning at noon for festive day of fun! Activities include a horseshoe throwing contest, blueberry pie eating contest, live music, fireworks, and more. For more information call 302-539-8011.

Laurel’s 18^th Annual July 4^th Celebration
Activities include a cornhole tournament (winners receive $100!), parade, talent show, and live music at the bandstand in Market Square Park. For more information, contact Jamie Smith at 302-875-2277.
