Wednesday is here and it’s time to start thinking about weekend plans!  With Easter this weekend, there are plenty of things to do.  Here are some great options:

Friday, April 6th:  44th Annual Great Delaware Kite Festival
Year after year, people come to Cape Henlopen State Park from all around to check out this popular, free event!  All kite-flying abilities are welcome, but you don’t have to participate to enjoy this fun festival!  There will be food, face painting, kite flying competitions, and a visit from the Easter Bunny.  Registration begins at 9am.

Saturday, April 7th:  Your Choice of Egg Hunts

  • Dewey Beach:  The Alley Oop Egg Scoop is hosted by Alley Oop Skim Shop at New Orleans Street and Dewey Beach.  This hunt begins at 10am for ages 2-5, 11am for ages 6-8 and 12pm for ages 9-12.  Registration is required, but available the morning of the hunt.
  • Georgetown:  This egg hunt takes place at the Marvel Carriage Museum at 12pm.  Face painting, train rides, moon bounce, food, visits from the Easter Bunny, and a coloring contest are also part of this fun event which runs from 11am-1pm.
  • Milford:  The Milford Blue Hen VFW at Post 6483 on Williamsville Road egg hunt begins at 10am and is open to all children ages 12 and under.
  • Millsboro:  This huge egg hunt features over 5,000 eggs and give-aways including an XBOX and a Wii!  This hunt is hosted by Bay Shore Community Church, but is open to the public and takes place in a field off of Highway 113 between Georgetown and Millsboro.
  • Millsboro:  This egg hunt is hosted at Cupola Park at 1pm and features an Easter Bonnet/Hat Contest and Easter Parade.

Sunday, April 8th:  Easter Sunday
Community Sunrise Service at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand begins at 6:30am.  It is sponsored by the Lewes-Rehoboth Association of Churches.

If you want to support a great cause,  Friday, March 30th will be the annual “Beef and Brew” to support Delaware Hospice.  This even will be from 6:30pm-10:30pm at the Georgetown CHEER Center (20520 Sand Hill Road, Georgetown).  Tickets are $30 if you get them today, and $35 after that.  For more information click here.

Saturday, March 31st:  Spring Craft Fair and Bake Sale at Lakeside Community Center (Pot Nets Lakeside, Long Neck Road)  8am-3pm – parking and admission are free

Saturday, March 31st:  Community Indoor Garage and Bake Sale at the Lewes Senior Center – 8am-1pm.

Saturday, March 31st:  If you have kids or grandkids that are 10 & younger, bring them out to the Children’s Easter Party at American Legion Post 17 (American Legion Road, Lewes).  12pm-2pm.

Saturday, March 31st-Sunday, April 1st:  The 15th Annual Delaware Resorts Home Expo – Saturday 9am-6pm, Sunday 10am-4pm; for more information click here.

And finally, if you haven’t caught Clear Space Theater’s production of My Fair Lady, this is your last chance to do so.  The show closes on April 1st, so head down to Clear Space (20 Baltimore Ave, Rehoboth Beach) and watch the love story between odd couple Eliza Doolittle and Professor Higgins unfold!

Pork Roast & Shrimp Pig-Out

Enjoy great food and live music at the annual Pork Roast & Shrimp Pig-Out at the Elks Lodge in Lewes (Beaver Dam Road).  Tickets are $20.  In addition to pork and shrimp, baked beans, coleslaw and rolls will also be served.  Pig-out on Friday, March 23rd from 5:30pm-9pm!  For more information, click this link.

Coastal Concerts Presents: Spanish Brass

Spanish Brass played Coastal Concerts in 2008 and impressed the audience with its versatility and vibrancy.  They’ve been asked back for an encore performance on Saturday, March 24th at 8pm.  Enjoying a concert by this world renowned quintet is a great way to spend a Saturday night!  The concert will be performed at Bethel United Methodist Church Hall in Lewes (Fourth & Market Streets).  For more information, including ticket prices, check out this link.

Bayhealth Family Wellness Expo & 16th Annual Baby Fair

“Cultivating Healthy Habits” is the theme of this year’s fair on Saturday, March 24th.  Head down to the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington to receive free health screenings and information about fitness and preventative care.  A childbirth educator will offer information and resources for expectant mothers.  Information on breastfeeding, childbirth, and child development will be highlighted.  For more information, check out this link.

For a party:

Take a road trip to Dover to experience the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  Be Irish for the day as the parade steps off at 2pm on Saturday, March 17th on Lockerman Street.

For a deal:

You’re sure to find something you love at Merchants’ Attic II at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Hall (229 Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach).  It’s billed as the state’s largest indoor garage sale and vendors of all types will be present.  Doors are open on Saturday, March 17th from 9:30am-1:30pm and admission is free, although donations are welcome and benefit the Chamber Event Fund.

For your health:

Stop by Cape Henlopen High School on Saturday, March 17th between 9am-4pm to take part in the 18th Annual Holistic Health Fair.  It’s a free day of education, workshops, speakers, demonstrations, and exhibits that cover the topics of holistic health, the environment, wellness, green living, and even local foods!  Dr. Pina LoGiudice, N.D., L.A.c, who has been featured on the Dr. Oz Show, will give the keynote address, “Superfoods for Longevity” at 1pm.  Other talks, workshops, and demonstrations are hosted throughout the day.  This event also features live music, local art, and a Kids’ Zone hosted by Cross Fit Rehoboth.  It’s good for your health and fun for the whole family!

With St. Patrick’s Day coming up, everyone is Irish!  Head to Historic Milton, Delaware this Sunday for the 5th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, hosted by Irish Eyes Pub and Restaurant.  The parade kicks off at 2pm and all proceeds benefit the Milton Fire Department Training Program, Best Buddies Delaware, and Casa San Francisco.  Hang out at Irish Eyes after the parade for a quick drink, a bite to eat, or just to feel Irish for a wee bit longer!
