Fourteen years ago today I was on the George Washington Bridge when the radio said that a plane hit the World Trade Center, as I looked down the Hudson I could see a whisper of smoke coming from the north tower. I proceed across the bridge and down the Major Deacon Expressway. The banter on the radio was about an errant plane but no one knew for sure. As I passed Yankee Stadium there is a clear look downtown and the smoke was much heavier. I reached my office in Queens, adjacent to the Citicorp tower. We went to the roof of our three story building to watch and that is when the second plane hit. Now we all knew for certain that some terrible attack on our country had just accrued. This is one of those days that you will always remember where you were; just like when JFK was killed. Our world changed that day and not for the better.

Today’s food for thought is from Napoleon Bonaparte: “A revolution is an idea which has found its bayonets.”
