Ocean view Delaware is a quaint town presenting a timeless allure, with it's Victorian - country ambiance. It is perfectly located one mile from the Atlantic ocean and one mile from the beautiful Indian River Bay. Nestled in Sussex county, this tiny town was first founded in the early 1600's when The Lord Baltimore gave 500 acres of land to Mathew Scarborough. Much later, the town was incorporated in the year 1899. A popular myth says that a man, while on this land, climbed up a tall tree and saw the vast Atlantic Ocean, thus giving it the name 'Ocean View'. The towns first Post Office was built in 1833 and soon the area began evolving with a village of farmers, water men, seafarers and families. In the late 1800's, along with all the shipyards providing work, new employment came to this area bringing much growth and a larger population. Such jobs included; blacksmiths', lumber and mill operators, fishermen, merchants, shoemaker's, vessel captains, farmers and fruit growers. In 1923, it became the birthplace of the broiler chicken industry as well as the largest strawberry producing region in the country. In 1980, the town evolved once again and is known as the 'bedroom community' for it's neighboring resort city, Bethany Beach, as well as a community of retirees.
Ocean View Delaware, in the last few years has more than doubled in it's population with the popular and splendid Bear Trap Golf course. This unique course offers 27 championship holes with a scenery that is sure to soothe ones soul, with it's authentic beauty and delightful location. It's a golf course that will challenge every golfer, no matter their level of skill with it's curving, reedy grass fairways and natural dunes. Other attractions near by this seafaring town are the Nassau Valley Vineyards, (tours and wine tasting encouraged), Charter fishing trips and Kayaking. A must see and a place that will kindle ones spirit, is the famous DiscoverSea Ship Wreck Museum. This museum contains ship wreck artifacts on the early Colonial Settlements, and histories of the famous ships, the HMS DeBraak, the Juno and the Faithful Steward. The museum displays include not only our local region in Delaware, but also includes world wide artefact's.
With Ocean View's quaint and cozy ambiance, it gives one a sensation of "tranquility and plentifulness". It is a wonderful town to visit and even though it is small, it's neighboring cities offer something for every visitor and resident. Close by, in Rehoboth are the infamous Tanger Outlets where over 130 brand name shops, such as The Disney store, Liz Claiborne, Abercrombie and Fitch and the enchanting Christmas Tree Hill, promise to fulfill every whim and necessity shoppers may have. While spending the day at the outlets, there are also plenty of diverse, delectable eateries, that are sure to please every palate. For the connoisseurs of specialty snacks, The Le Gourmet Chef offers an abundance of samples to nibble on while browsing. There is no doubt that one will walk out with a full bag of new and gourmet treats to make a 'big hit' at every party! Too much of a good thing is wonderful! This saying speaks true of the famous Nicola's Pizza, where upon entering it's doors, one can't help but feel like a child again at Disneyland. Besides having pizza and Italian dishes that make ones mouth water, the ambiance is magical with autographed photographs of movie stars and a train that makes it way around the restaurant, bringing enchantment and joy to both children and adults alike. Nestled within the Boardwalk Hotel is the lovely Victoria's for gracious and glorious dining. In entering this eatery, one can't help but feel as if they have stepped back in time to the Victorian era. With all the many delicacies placed before each guest, whether at an afternoon tea, scrumptious Sunday Brunch or a blithesome, romantic dinner, one's soul will be warmed and they will leave feeling pampered and renewed.. For a more casual, yet very cozy place to eat, there is the Cottage Cafe. The heartwarming food served here will take you back to the meals you loved as a child with lot's of comfort foods!!!! For the warmth of a steaming cup of coffee, or robust espresso, visit Kool Bean Cafe and Espresso located in Ocean View . Not only does this cafe offer delicious coffees, but they specialize in fresh baked goods, gourmet desserts and specialty salads and soups. Magnolia's Seafood Bar and Grill is a lovely place to eat with it's charming ambiance of firelight flickering within its two fireplaces, superb seafood and fine wines. If one loves the ambiance of waves breaking on the sandy shore, beautiful sunsets, or taking in the sights of the glitter of a starry night on the beach, visit Mango's where there cuisine offers an abundance of choices of all types of food, delicious burgers, chicken, fish and appetizers along with bar drinks that will wow any palate.
