Welcome to Laurel Delaware! Laurel Delaware History
Currently, Laurel Delaware is a town that displays many beautiful Victorian homes. The Laurel Historic District hosts many beauteous period homes for each guest and resident to behold. Many of these homes have been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Another gorgeous place to visit is the Inn that was at one time ( in the late 18th century, early 19th),, a magnificent plantation called Spring Garden. Now, it is a renown B&B that is definitely worth seeing. Old Christ Church, built in 1771-1772 , is one of a dozen churches along the Atlantic coast to survive the ramifications of the Revolutionary past. Enjoy delightful tours as you enter through it's doors and feel as if you have stepped back into time, returning to 18th century England.
Laurel Delaware is near to some of the most fantastic eateries on the east coast. For savory Italian cuisine and mouthwatering pizza, there is Brother's Pizza. The Laurel Oasis is a heartwarming, cozy family restaurant with great home cooking. Nearby Bethany Beach hosts the renown Bethany Blues BBQ. It is an eatery with a 'Southern blues twist', along with an intriguing wall fountain that is 2 stories high! Bootsie's Bar-B-Que has a fired up charcoal pit serving superb beef, chicken and pork BBQ with plenty of home cooked side dishes that create within each guest that warm, snug feeling of being back at home enjoying mom's home cooking! For those who love to feel pampered and experience a grandiose dining adventure, the Parkway Restaurant is a lovely place to eat. With a Hawaiian – Pacific cuisine and glistening candle lit tables, each guest is sure to feel indulged and coddled as they enjoy the scrumptious food and delightful ambiance.
Another nicety that Laurel has is the fact that it is so close to the resort beach cities of Rehoboth and Lewes. These two cities offer something for everyone from shopping to golf, fresh seafood and 4 star eateries, delicious coffee pubs, fitness centers, great school districts and hospitals, alluring museums, water parks, winery and breathtaking lighthouses. Laurel is only a few short hours from the renown historic cities of Annapolis, Washington DC, Baltimore and Wilmington. While in Wilmington, a must see is the magnificent Winterthur Gardens nestled in the beautiful Brandywine Valley. Winterthur has 1,000 acres of soothing rolling hills, running brooks amidst lovely meadows and lush forests along with the Enchanted Gardens for the little ones. The founder, Francis du Pont, (1880 – 1969), collected an abundance of exquisite antiques and each visitor can tour furnished rooms that will not only take them back in time, but bring much awe and inspiration to the spirit while viewing! Both Annapolis and Baltimore offer much history as well and inspirational beaches to enjoy a cold beer, glass of wine and appetizers while taking in the romantic water views, (whether the Atlantic Ocean or Chesapeake Bay.) Visiting the Nation's Capital is an adventure that one should set a side at least three days, if not more to see! With all the awesome architecture, historic museums and famous eateries, the city is not only brilliant and dazzling, but it is a place that will bring memories that will last an entire life time.
Even though Laurel is a tiny town, the places that surround it bring so much wealth to every resident and guest alike. Whether one is looking to relocate and enjoy small town living, or desiring a cozy little place to vacation during the wonderful and diverse four seasons, Laurel is an ideal town filled with an abundance of history, beauty, friendly people and is most assuredly a town to visit, if not for sightseeing, some great pizza and home cooking.
